ODN Europe – London & South East Dec Gathering on Class
December 3, 2021 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Greetings to you all. We hope the summer and autumn have brought enough time to rest and your workloads are manageable with as much or as little as you wish for.
We have the chance to gather again on Friday 3 December from 12:30-14:30 GMT. As the year has progressed, we have used different lenses through which to understand inclusion and belonging. In our next gathering, our focus will be Class / Social Class / Socio-Economic Class. It isn’t something we talk about much. What do we understand about class and what does it mean for each of us? When does my class privilege or exclude me? As a planning team, we have been exploring these and many other questions and will bring these to the gathering on 3 December.
If you would like to contribute to our collective enquiry about class, please email info@odneurope.org.uk and we will send you the Zoom link.
On another note, our OD community feels a very special space. Thank you for being part of it. Some of you may remember a wonderful session led by Val Tomlin and Gilly Shapiro when they reflected on their experience of establishing a reciprocal mentoring programme in the NHS. It is with great sadness that we heard that Val has passed away. In our virtual world, it is hard to understand what is happening in people’s lives. We want to honour her life and her work as a community member.
Behind the scenes of this network, a number of us connect in planning, communicating and recording what goes on. Julian Burton was a co-instigator of the community and in recent months, his own development path has taken him further away from ours. He has decided to step away from the planning team. We want to say a massive thank you to him for his many years of involvement and wish him well.
Sarah Walsh and Sharon Green have similarly decided to step away having been hugely valuable contributors to our thinking and planning. They will continue to be part of the community and we (Rhian, Sarah Bond and Maureen) want to express our deep gratitude to them both for all their support.
