ODNE Conference 2021 – OD and Community
To overcome the wicked challenges of our time requires us to connect more than ever as communities. What is “community” and how is this different from teams or tribes? What’s the impact of power and influence? And how can we as OD connect, grow and support communities?
For 2021 there’s a new approach to the ODNE conference – one which combines the wide accessibility of online sessions with the warmth and sociability of being in the same room as fellow OD practitioners. We’re also taking account of continued restrictions to travel and large gatherings, uncertainty about how long this could last, and the risk that they could be re- introduced at any time.
On Wednesday 21st April the conference will begin online with speakers and breakout sessions, followed, on Thursday 22nd April, by a day of meeting in person over multiple locations. On Friday 23rd April we’ll be online again with more speakers and opportunities to share experiences and learning from the previous days.
The in-person part of the event will also look and feel different to previous conferences. Our intention is to bring it physically closer to participants by having gatherings in locations across the UK and Europe and for participants to be central to the organisation and facilitation.
We’re looking for members and non-members to host sessions in their area. This could mean simply providing a location – however small – on the day, where the participants would take joint responsibility for designing and facilitating the content. A location could be someone’s living room, the local park, a community hall or an available office space.
Or you could choose to take a more active role and provide a structure and facilitation as well as the location. Contact one of the organisers to find out more about what’s involved and follow the link to sign up as a host.
Volunteer hosts will be invited to participate in planning calls ahead of the conference. If there are multiple offers to host an event in the same city the conference organisers will work with potential hosts to decide which of the options offers the best participant experience for that location.
Our aim is for as many participants as possible to join one of the in-person events but there will be an alternative online programme for those who can’t or don’t want to join a gathering.
