A moment that helped me realise I wanted to make a career in OD
The Organization Workshop from Power+Systems - as told by an ODN Europe member
I experienced the Organization Workshop during my OD Practitioner training at Roffey Park and for me it was, not a turning point, because I was already on the OD path, but a confirmation that the journey was taking me where I wanted to go.
The workshop creates a model organization, with workers, management and leadership, and some customers or clients. The stage is set and nature takes its course… and at the start I thought “but the organisation I work in is special and different! How can a workshop tell me anything useful about it?”
I was sooooo wrong!
In the time-outs between the simulation, we started to do what I now recognise as the real work: talking about, and trying to understand, what happens between people in workplaces. How to become aware of behaviour and impacts and interactions, pushing beyond the boundaries of what is allowed to be talked about in most workplaces. The fact that it was even possible to speak about those things felt strange, and sometimes uncomfortable. But it is possible. And often it’s the only thing that will make a difference.
This was a moment that helped me realise I wanted to make a career in OD.

The Organization Workshop
